These spy shots allegedly showing a Genesis GV90 being towed from its latest test drive in California suggest that the luxury SUV has back-hinged doors, not unlike the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
According to Korean Car Blog, the automaker is planning to break new ground with the GV90, aiming it squarely at the luxury car buyers. To that end, it will be over 5 meters (16.4 feet) long with upright b-pillars and a rounded tailgate. The doors appear back-hinged to maximize convenience getting in and out of the car. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out that the SUV was envisioned as a car to be chauffeured, not driven.
From the technical perspective, the GV90 is expected to utilize a state-of-the-art platform known as the eM. It’s an evolutionary step forward from the current E-GMP, Genesis claims. Armed with the company’s 113-kWh battery pack, it might offer up to 800 km (497 miles) of range.
As for the exterior, it seems clearly inspired by the Genesis Neolun Concept seen in the video above. It debuted in 2024 and had neither any door handles nor side mirrors. It also featured a deluxe four-seat cabin with seats swiveling 180 degrees around their base. It remains to be seen whether any of these features reach production, of course.
When the GV90 was first announced, the observers agreed that it was a likely competitor to the likes of the BMW X7 and Range Rover. With these latest photos, it looks like it aspires to steal sales from the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan, no less.
