Genesis suicide-door flagship caught on camera again

The posh SUV that may or may not go on sale under the name “Genesis GV90” when it is ready has been spotted running pre-production tests yet again. As the new images suggest, the luxury crossover doesn’t have any b-pillars for its back-hinged rear doors, coming ahead of the Rolls-Royce cars in this respect.

In fact, the prototype looks structurally identical to the Neolun Concept that inspired it (see video). It remains to be seen just how Genesis managed to reinforce the bodywork so well, but some of the images reveal what looks like reinforced door sections with links. It looks like the automaker achieves the necessary body rigidity by locking the front and the rear doors firmly together during driving. And if you peek inside the cabin, you will see Navy Blue leather seats with plenty of physical controls on the sides for adjustment.

While the company doesn’t say so outright, it makes sense for this alleged Genesis GV90 to become the next evolutionary step of the “high-end Korean EV” lineup started by the Kia EV9 and the Ioniq 9. It appears to be running on the same platform as those two, but the company prefers to call it a new name, “eM”, to emphasize the sheer number of changes.

As the premium brand’s new flagship, the GV90 should pack at least 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) spread among two or more e-motors and deliver at least 500 kilometers (310 miles) per charge.
