GMC has unveiled the next generation of the Canyon pickup. Here is what’s new and exciting.
The Elevation, AT4 and Denali trims now benefit from upgraded suspension and 2 inches (51 mm) of added ground clearance. The AT4X version takes things further with a 3-inch (76mm) lift. It also rides on larger 33-inch tires, while the others use 32-inch ones.
The truck bed is 61.5 inches (1575 mm) long and features a power socket, as well as tie-down rings and other means of securing cargo. Stamped guiding lines in the bed make moving heavy weights easier and simultaneously help secure the wheels of a bicycle or motorbike in place. A watertight compartment for small miscellaneous items can be found inside the drop side.
By default, you get an 8-inch digital dashboard and an 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. The dash display can be increased to 11 inches across for a premium. The infotainment supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and grants access to Google online services.
The upmarket AT4, AT4X and Denali trims involve generous amounts of natural leather. The range-topping Denali additionally offers a HUD, adaptive cruise control, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a sunroof, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, ten cameras for an all-around view, and a host of electronic assists.
The AT4X has 10.6 inches (272 mm) of ground clearance, inter-wheel diff locks, robust underride guards and shock absorbers with external reservoirs. In addition to the standard driving modes called Normal, Off-Road, terrain and Tow/Haul, the AT4X spec gets Baja.
In its welcoming AT4X Edition 1 for the first buyers, the pickup comes equipped with a winch, an extra LED bar, a self-washing undercarriage camera, a bull bar and reinforcement braces around the body.
Powering the 2023 GMC Canyon is a 2.7-liter turbo engine capable of 314 PS (310 hp / 231 kW) and 582 Nm (429 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission drives the wheels, and it’s up to you to decide whether you want a RWD or AWD version of the truck.
The production is set to begin in early 2023. Pre-orders are already being registered. Full prices start from $40,000 and go to $63,400.
