Honda specialist Mugen attended the latest Tokyo Auto Salon with the announcement of a rally-themed tuning package for the Civic Type R. Fast-forward to this week, and we finally know most of the pricing details. The catch? The whole treatment costs north of $100,000 in Japan, while the hot hatch itself barely tops $40,000 with all options ticked.
Even more impressively, the Mugen package leaves the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine at its stock 319 PS (315 hp / 235 kW) and 420 Nm (310 lb-ft) of torque. You can still choose to cover it with an engine lid priced at the equivalent of U.S. $1,200 and top that one with a hood cover worth another $7,800.
Further mechanical mods include a $4,900 titanium exhaust system and a $6,500 brake upgrade. On the aero side of things, the most expensive components are the front splitter, the rear diffuser, and the side skirts. All three come priced at $9,700 each. Set aside another $6,500 if you want that bold rear wing, $5,200 more if you like the fender flares with vents, and $1,300 if you are in the mood for that lip spoiler.
Mugen claims that the exhaust system and the aero kit shave off a combined 57 kilograms (125 pounds) from the curb weight of the car while tripling its downforce. In addition to that, the high-flow exhaust allegedly boosts the torque values in the mid-range of the RPM spectrum. There are no specific numbers, though, and we suspect the improvement isn’t that noticeable.
Customer deliveries start in 2026. The tuner says that the availability will be strictly limited and different parts will become available at different times throughout the year, so we suggest contacting the company directly for the details.
