Hongqi L-series luxury limo changes generations

Chinese luxury car manufacturer Hongqi has unveiled the next generation of its flagship L-Series limo traditionally used by the CCP elite. The only car revealed thus far is called L5 and represents the low-end model in its range. Prices haven’t been announced yet, but pre-orders are already running.

Like its predecessor, the new L5 has a retrospective design with round headlamps put inside tall fenders. A large radiator grille, a Red Banner hood ornament and the ribbed taillights further enhance the ‘retro’ component. The rest of the bodywork looks rather up-to-date, actually.

Inside, there is a cluster of three displays spanning the entire width of the dashboard. The rear seats are separate and offer every adjustment and comfort option imaginable. The trim scheme relies heavily on expensive materials.

The old engine is gone, replaced with an unspecified ‘V8 turbo’. We would assume an automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, but this is not guaranteed. The rest of the data is not available yet.

The new L5 is the most expensive Hongqi limo that private individuals can buy in China, with all upmarket versions reserved for the government. It is unclear how much it currently costs, but everything points to it being at least as expensive as the old generation (but likely more expensive than that).
