HiPhi Z production starts, here’s what you should know about the car

Human Horizons, the owner of the HiPhi brand, has reported shipping the first production batch of its all-electric sedan named simply ‘Z’. These vehicles will all be distributed among dealerships in China to be used in test drives, while full-scale deliveries won’t begin until the next month, CarNewsChina reports.

The saloon is full five meters long and looks rather unconventional both inside and out. For one thing, there is no dashboard – just a heads-up display and a head unit in the middle with a rotating 3D cube for interface. The touchscreen itself is mounted on a robotic arm that can position it under any angle you find convenient – just tell it to do so using voice commands.

Buyers get two powertrains to choose from, single-motor and dual-motor. The former packs 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) and 410 Nm (302 lb-ft) of torque, while the latter leads with 672 PS (663 hp / 494 kW) and 820 Nm (605 lb-ft) of torque. The top spec needs 3.8 seconds for its standard sprint exercise and offers up to 705 km (438 miles) of NEDC-rated driving range.

Options include air suspension and advanced four-wheel steering with the rear wheel turn angle reaching 13.2 degrees. A semi-autonomous driving suite is also provided based on 32 various sensors notably including a LiDAR.

Prices start from 610,000 Yuan, or a touch above 87,000 USD.
