The South Korean car manufacturer has brought the U.S.-spec Kona SUV to the ongoing New York Auto Show. Let’s have a look, shall we?
You will not find any drastic design differences between the U.S.-market Kona and those designed for the other markets. The underlying tech is a different story, though. For instance, the new Kiona Electric for the USA packs a 64.8-kWh traction battery, which is noticeably smaller than the international version. Because of this, the available driving range drops from 304 to just 260 miles (from 489 to 418 kilometers, respectively). The EV supports fast charging, but going from zero to 80% still takes 43 minutes.
As for the ICE-powered Kona, it will reach the shores of North America with a choice between two engines – a 2.0-liter four-pot rated at 147 PS (145 hp / 108 kW) and a 1.6-liter turbo good for 195 PS (192 hp / 143 kW).
In its sportiest N Line implementation, the Kona comes equipped with aluminum pedals, sport seats, a styling package, a decent rear spoiler, metallic exhaust tips and 19-inch wheels sporting an original design.
