Hyundai Verna gets teased on video, hits production in India

Hyundai has revealed some of the specifications of its next-gen Verna/Solaris sedan for India and the export markets. According to Autocar India, it is larger than the old generation with a bigger trunk and a new 1.5L turbo option.

The model measures 4,535 x 1,765 x 1,475 mm large with 2,670 mm separating the axles. It is therefore 95 mm longer and 36 mm wider than its predecessor with an added 70 mm between the axles. In this sense, it nearly matches the old-gen Elantra. The trunk also gets expanded from 480 to 524 liters.

Judging by the video, the rear bench now offers plenty of legroom even for the taller passengers. This is the first time we are seeing the cabin of the new Verna/Solaris, and Hyundai choosing to focus on the space between the seat rows must mean there is a big improvement over the previous generation.

The standard trim level includes glove compartment cooling and a ‘dedicated smartphone holder for the front passenger’. The interior can be trimmed in beige and black now, but eco-friendly artificial leather remains reserved for the top trim levels.

The most basic engine stays unchanged. It is still a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated mill mated to a manual transmission or CVT for 115 PS (113 hp / 85 kW). Higher trim levels unlock a new 1.5-liter turbo engine obtainable with a manual gearbox or seven-speed DCT. This option gets you 160 PS (158 hp / 118 kW).

The launch remains scheduled for March 21, 2023, but the production of the model for India and some export markets is already underway.
