Range Rover shelves EV plans, reports say

Land Rover has decided to postpone the market launch of an electric Range Rover model, The Guardian claims citing sources inside the company.

We are told that the company had originally expected to bring the Range Rover EV to the showrooms before the end of this year. It has now allegedly postponed it to 2026. Interestingly, the sources claim that the delay had nothing to do with the poor performance of the premium EV market.

All those who preordered the EV had apparently received a message from the manufacturer notifying them about the delay. In the usual manner of such messages, it mentioned an intention “to further improve the electric SUV” to better reflect the Land Rover brand values and to match the customers’ expectations. In other words, it’s still a rough vehicle that needs more testing and development before it can hope to compete.

All technical specifications are pure speculation at this point. We hear that the marque’s first electric Range Rover is set to receive a pair of e-motors jointly rated at 550 PS (542 hp / 405 kW) or close. A 117-kWh battery pack will provide the power and support 350kW charging. Advanced thermal regulation, the latest motor control software and full torque vectoring are also on the list. Rumors also say dual-chamber air suspension and a drive mode system called Terrain Response are going to be included as standard features.

The first official photos of the electric Range Rover emerged last fall. They showed a vehicle almost identical to its ICE counterpart, leaving us hopeful that the biggest changes will take place under the metal.

Land Rover had planned to electrify the Range Rover Sport and the Range Rover Velar after the main model. It’s now unclear whether those will be postponed as well.
