Leapmotor’s VW ID.3 killer to get a flagship spec in 2026

Leapmotor has confirmed that a particularly beefy variant of its Lafa 5 a.k.a. B05 electric hatchback is scheduled for launch in Europe next year. It will compete with the likes of the Volkswagen ID.3, offering advanced aero and serious dynamic performance.

The report comes from CarNewsChina quoting Leapmotor VP Cao Li. According to him, the standard Lafa 5 model will reach the domestic market in late 2025, and the Ultra version should be ready for launch in the first half of 2026. It will be wearing an extended aerodynamic kit and benefit from a sporty suspension setup tuned by Stellantis.

The company has found that around 70% of the customers who preordered the standard Lafa 5 hatchback were 35 or younger. As such, a decision was made to produce a sportier variant for the most active slice of this target audience. You can see the first renderings of the car in the gallery above – 19-inch wheels, a pronounced front splitter and a large rear spoiler sum up for quite a streamlined profile. The interior remains to be shown, but the company promises us lots of Alcantara there.

Commenting on the Lafa 5/B05 Ultra, Cao Li emphasized that all the aero elements are fully functional and that the company stays true to its policy of avoiding purely visual aero mods. He declined comment when asked about the powertrains, but mentioned working together with Stellantis Group engineers on the suspension. It’s still safe to assume that the car will utilize dual electric motors, giving it an edge before the standard version with just one motor and 215 PS (212 hp / 158 kW) max.
