2023 Lexus UX 300e gains 40% range

Lexus has facelifted the UX 300e, its very first production EV. The scope of changes is largely identical to those of its ICE counterpart shown in the video below.

The traction battery built into the floor has grown in size and now holds up to 72.8 kilowatt-hours of power instead of the original 54.4 kWh. As a result, the WLTP-rated range now amounts to a healthy 450 kilometers (280 miles). The announcement neglects to mention any modifications to the electric motor, which probably still makes 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque. The company proudly points out that repositioning the battery pack slightly improved noise proofing for the entire car.

The body benefits from a couple dozen of additional welding points, making it more rigid and stable. Lexus has already tried a similar approach in other new cars. The electronics and the suspension enjoy new standard settings, and Yamaha sports-grade shock absorbers are now installed on the rear axle.

Inside, the multimedia system makes use of a 12.3-inch display offset slightly towards the driver. The button layout on the center console is different. The new UX 300e offers a variety of new online services and a digital key fob for those wishing to unlock their car from a smartphone. Multiple new USB slots were added, and the ‘transparent hood’ feature was implemented.

The Safety System+ package received new, better video cameras and radars that expanded its capabilities. Lexus highlights improved pedestrian detection and lanekeeping, among other things. As well, the electric car can now identify incoming cars when making a turn.

The first deliveries will be made next spring. Lexus had sold 2.3 million electric and partly electrified cars by the end of August 2022.
