Yes, a tuned 1994 Mazda Miata can cost $70,000 and be worth it

The Mazda Miata is quite a crowd favorite with well-designed chassis and suspension, easy handling, and an affordable price tag. But is it worth subjecting to an extensive tuning, so that you end up spending north of U.S. $70,000? Looks like it is, yes.

This particular example is a work of Dionne Mascunana, the main social media person behind aftermarket tire company Toyo Tires.

He started with a 1994 Mazda Miata and spent a month honing it to perfection. He claims he did everything on his own, except for the paint.

The vehicle ended up with a highly eclectic body kit consisting of odds and ends sourced from all imaginable customization shops. He ordered some of the components from shops in the USA and Europe, brought some others from Japan, and even made a few himself.

The one major (ahem) highlight of the build comes in the form of mind-bogglingly gigantic CCW Classic wheels wrapped in (you guessed it) Toyo Tires. Not even the Rocket Bunny fenders can adequately cover those, which says a lot.

Moving on the paint, the 194 Mazda Miata initially shipped with a red paintwork, but it apparently wasn’t red enough for Mascunana, who had it repainted Ferrari Red.

Wrapping up the list of changes are tweaked suspension, intake and exhaust systems. The man has plans to do an engine swap, though, so may be hearing from him again soon.
