Limited-run, tastefully tuned Mazda RX-7 crops up on sale

The Wankel-engined Mazda RX-7 RS-R celebrated its 30th birthday in 1997. One of these Anniversary Edition coupes made it to the United States a couple of years ago and is now being offered on Bring-a-Trailer with some nice upgrades.

The owner of the vivid yellow car felt it could use a facelift, so he outfitted it with new bumpers and taillights sourced from the 1999 RX-7 lineup. He complemented the look with custom side skirts and an AutoExe front spoiler. A set of BBS RG-R forged wheels and lowered suspension rounded off the styling effort.

The car is now being sold with a replacement engine (1.3-liter rotary twin-turbo four-pot) and transmission (five-speed manual). The exhaust system, the fuel pump and the radiator are all represented by superior aftermarket analogs, and while the listing doesn’t mention the output, it must be higher than the original’s 265 PS (261 hp / 195 kW).

The bidding has so far climbed to $23,250 with a day remaining on the clock. The car has around 85,000 km (53,000 miles) under its belt.
