Mercedes-Benz EQS gets a Maybach version

Mercedes will be complementing the EQS family with an SUV based on the same tech in 2022, and a Maybach variant of it in 2023. Interestingly enough, the company decided to show us the luxed-up crossover first.

The vehicle pictured here is a production-close prototype to be featured at the impending IAA Munich show. Note the giant faux grille, the dual-tone paintjob, the 24-inch chromed wheels and the Maybach badges.

The cabin with the MBUX Hyperscreen draws parallels with the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. Expensive but fashionable fabric is used for upholstery all around, and a recessed niche in the center console is intended for a flower vase – you know, in case they still refuse to believe your luxury ride is eco-friendly and nature-saving.

Technical tidbits and prices remain to be announced, but the normal EQS SUV is expected to offer around 600 km (404 miles) of WLTP-rated range – the Maybach probably won’t be too far from that.
