Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain breaks cover in Germany

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class family is welcoming its latest member, an off-road-capable All-Terrain wagon scheduled to go on sale in the first quarter of 2024.

All Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain models come equipped with AWD, air-ride suspension and adaptive shocks by default, resulting in a 46mm (1.8-inch) increase in ride height.

The initial choice will be between three hybrid powertrains. The cheapest one is a 2.0-liter diesel engine with 197 PS (194 hp / 145 kW) and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque at the output end. A starter-generator adds another 23 PS (23 hp / 17 kW) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque when needed.

The middle-ground spec is called E300de and is based on the same diesel mill. However, it complements the starter with a standalone electric motor good for 129 PS (127 hp / 95 kW) and 440 Nm (325 lb-ft) of torque. The resulting max output amounts to 313 PS (309 hp / 230 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft). This version can cover up to 102 km (64 miles) on electric power alone.

Rounding off the trio is the E450, a petrol-electric wagon with 381 PS (376 hp / 280 kW) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) at its disposal. It is a mild hybrid, though, meaning it only has a starter, but no electric motor or electric driving mode. On the upside, it sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.7 seconds.

Exterior differences boil down to a new radiator grille, bumpers with fake rugged trims, and decorative side sill/arch trims.
