Massive Nio ES9 EV primes for launch

Nio’s latest electric vehicle, the lavish and bulky ES9 crossover, will celebrate its debut on April 10 and reach the showrooms in China in early summer, says Nio President Lihong Qin. Let’s check out the pics and the stats while we wait.

According to the patent data from China’s Ministry of Industry database, the SUV is whopping 5,365 mm (209.6 inches) long, 2,029 mm (79.3 inches) wide and 1,870 mm (73 inches) tall with a wheelbase spanning 3,250 mm (127 inches). As such, it’s slightly longer and taller than the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Once out and about, it will be the largest all-electric SUV on the country’s domestic market.

The interior remains to be shown, but we already know that there will be three rows with a choice between six and seven total seats. For the powertrain, the ES9 will rely on two electric motors producing a combined 707 PS (697 hp / 520 kW). Despite weighing in at nearly three metric tons (around 6,400 lbs), it is capable of hitting 220 km/h (136 mph) and gets up to 620 kilometers (385 miles) per charge, CLTC-rated.

Feature-wise, Nio promises us a rapid-swap opportunity for the battery unit, reducing the waiting time to get a fully charged battery down to three minutes or less.
