Next-gen Nissan Teana “Plus” presents interior

Nissan and Dongfeng have posted the first cabin shots of their new Teana for China. The sedan is slated to go on sale before the end of the year featuring a traditional combustion engine and a digital cockpit from Huawei (although not completely without physical buttons).

Compared to the previous Teana generation, everything in the cabin has basically been redone from scratch in a fashion typical of Chinese domestic EVs and hybrids. The tech-heavy “digital” design looks almost out-of-place in a car as conservative as this, but may pay off as long as the domestic market accepts it. Anyway, the infotainment system runs on a Huawei operating system and resides on two displays – a 15.6-inch center touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital dashboard. All sound is routed through 17 Huawei speakers, all phones are said to be “seamlessly supported”, and there is an AI-powered voice assistant on board. There’s even a dedicated Karaoke Mode for when the mood hits.

On the hardware side of things, the steering wheel is new and so is the transmission selector sitting on a bulky transmission tunnel next to a charging pad and some cup holders. It’s partially made of glass and echoes the design of a pop-out lighting fixture on the dash that Nissan calls a “diffuser”. Another intriguing feature comes in the form of ultra-comfortable seats called “Spinal” for some reason. The Spinal seat lineup offers heating, ventilation, massage and flexible power adjustments in one package, Nissan says.

Despite a markedly different exterior, the next-gen Teana stays about the same size as its predecessor. It will go on sale in China alongside the old generation and will be called “Teana Plus” to avoid confusion. Both will utilize the old 2.0-liter turbocharged engine linked to a CVT for 243 PS (240 hp / 179 kW).
