Peugeot 2008 facelift revealed with new looks, strengths and options

Peugeot has done a lot with the latest design iteration of its 2008 crossover SUV.

On the outside, the car now looks in line with the manufacturer’s latest design direction with claw-like vertical DRLs and a trim-dependent radiator grille. The taillights sport new LED signatures, the bumper is more pronounced than before, and the buyers can choose from a wider assortment of available wheels and exterior colors.

Inside, the digital dashboard measures 10 inches corner-to-corner and supports UI customization. The head unit has the same diagonal size in all trim levels (the base trim used to come with a 7-inch infotainment screen). The gear lever has been redesigned slightly, and Peugeot says multimedia and ambient lighting are now more versatile than ever.

Novelty in the drivetrain department boils down to an update of the all-electric e-2008 spec, which now uses the same motor as e-308. It outputs 156 PS (154 hp /115 kW) instead of the former 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) and benefits from a larger 54-kWh battery pack. While the pre-facelift version was capped at 344 km (214 miles) of driving range, the new one looks much better equipped with 406 km (252 miles) at its disposal.

The IC engine lineup stays the same. You can still go with the base petrol three-pot rated at 100 PS (99 hp / 74 kW) or pay extra for a similar engine capable of 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW). The former comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and no further options, while the latter supports eight-speed A/T as well. Finally, there is a 1.5-liter diesel mill that goes A/T only and produces 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW).

A hybrid spec is scheduled for release next year that will combine a 1.2-liter petrol engine with a small-time electric motor built into a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. It is expected to make 136 PS (134 hp / 100 kW) in total.

The production will begin soon in Vigo, Spain. Showrooms in Europe will start receiving the new Peugeot 2008 in summer.
