Peugeot teases a mystery car with a squared wheel

The Peugeot Polygon Concept remains in the shadows, but the first teaser video lets you catch a glimpse of its squared-off steering wheel with four openings. The Inception Concept from two years ago had a similar wheel. Some believe it will debut in November and eventually distill into a mass-produced Peugeot 208 hatchback.

The video reveals very little besides the name of the concept car, but it’s also filmed in a way one might call futuristic and tech-focused, so we suppose the car itself could be that. The pixelated LED lights also make us think about all-electric powertrains.

Peugeot CEO Alain Favey revealed in a recent interview that the company was considering making the squared wheel standard for most mass-produced cars. According to him, it would work well with the company’s i-Cockpit system soon set to receive a bigger 21-inch display.

As for the next-generation Peugeot 208, it’s rumored to be based on the STLA Small platform best suited for fully electric vehicles. Considering the current EV market climate, we wouldn’t be surprised if the company launched two versions – electric and gas-powered – side-by-side. After all, Favey himself admitted that the optimal strategy for the Peugeot brand would be to let customers choose which powertrain type they want.
