Tuned Barracuda with a star background goes for $26k

A flamboyant 1967 Plymouth Barracuda built by the renowned George Barris to feature in the 1972 action/thriller Corky starring Robert Blake (see video) changed hands for U.S. $26,666 this weekend.

Originally finished in silver, this particular ‘Cuda was repainted in peachy tones for the big screen. It was also outfitted with lots of extra air intakes, a giant rear wing and exhaust side-pipes. For the wheels, the famous tuner settled on period-appropriate “slot mags” – that is, slotted magnesium alloy rims shod in tires with white lettering. Pinstripes were applied to the sides, and a Barris Kustom Industries logo made it onto the front left fender.

The coupe’s original 4.5-liter V8 tuned to 238 PS (235 hp / 175 kW) continued its duty under the hood. This engine was considered entry-level for this car even back in the late ‘60s, and we suspect time hasn’t done it any favors. A four-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential sent the momentum to the rear wheels.

The listing notes that the car had received numerous modifications throughout its 59 years of existence. It ended up with more up-to-date suspension parts, disc brakes all around and a new Edelbrock carburetor, just to name a few. Based on the photos, though, the exterior and the cabin look somewhat neglected, possibly needing some costly restoration.

This may partially explain the modest selling price, but we have another idea as well. You see, Corky was never a particular cinematic success, and its protagonist Corky Curtiss wasn’t of the lovable type. Leaving more people mildly annoyed than entertained, he didn’t do much to turn his flashy ‘70s ride into a desirable collection piece.
