Video: Check out a Kalmar 7-97 Turbo snowdrifting happily in Lapland

Having revealed its ultimate driver’s machine with Porsche 911 (993) underpinnings and 930 Turbo spirit, Kalmar Automotive took it to northern Europe for some serious wintertime tests.

In case you missed the announcement, the Kalmar 7-97 Turbo is essentially a 993-generation car modified as a tribute to the infamous “Widowmaker” 930. With a turbocharger driving up the power, that 911 had a sharp throttle response, was quick to reach crazy speeds and just as quick to kick out its tail in corners, punishing inexperienced drivers. Sometimes the punishment was too much to take.

Needless to say, Kalmar wanted to address these design issues before designing everything else. They upgraded their restomod with high-end modern suspension and electronic safety systems. They also installed carbon-ceramic brakes in all four corners and filled the arches with 18-inch magnesium centerlock wheels.

Swapping the body panels for lightweight CFP ones dropped the dry weight to just 1,200 kilos, or 2,645 pounds. Last but not least, the stock engine vacated the bay to make room for a 3.2-liter, turbocharged custom mill rated at 650 PS (641 hp / 478 kW) and 670 Nm (494 lb-ft) of torque. Watch the shorts, and you’ll see what it handles like.

Only 11 examples of the Kalmar 7-97 Turbo will be made, some of them with convertible bodies and bespoke interiors.
