Porsche announces a middle-ground Cayenne EV

Offering a stable 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) in normal driving scenarios, the new battery-powered Cayenne SUV will slot in between the entry-level Electric model and the range-topping Turbo. Preorders are already running in Germany.

Like the Turbo version, the new Cayenne Electric S takes advantage of active oil cooling at the rear axle. With launch control enabled, it snaps off the line and reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.8 seconds. The top speed amounts to 250 km/h (155 mph).
The traction battery stays unchanged at 113 kilowatt-hours of nominal capacity. It allows for up to 653 kilometers (405 miles) of range on a charge and takes only 16 minutes to top up from 10 to 80 percent full.

Other noteworthy features of the S version include new bumpers with a grey finish and distinct 20-inch wheels. Paying a premium gets you active ride control, carbon-ceramic brakes, torque vectoring and a dedicated Track Mode.

By all indications, the Cayenne Electric family is expecting another member soon. Several days ago, a new Porsche SUV was spotted testing in Germany in a coupe-like body. The local media seem to agree that it will be known as the Cayenne Turbo GT Electric when it arrives. For the power, it might surpass the current flagship’s 1,156 PS (1,140 hp / 850 kW), although it remains to be seen.
