Croatian automaker Rimac Automobili will be producing 40 units of the track-focused Nevera R hypercar. The pricing hasn’t been mentioned yet.
Despite being marketed as a track weapon first and foremost, the R is street-legal. It features a sophisticated body kit with a large rear wing and a bulky rear diffuser adding an estimated 10% to overall drag performance and 15% to downforce. New staggered wheels installed in 20” at the front and 21” at the rear come wrapped in Michelin Cup 2 tires and offer a glimpse at EVO2 carbon-ceramic brakes behind the spokes, which benefit from superior cooling.
The car’s R-AWTV feature – the All-Wheel Torque Vectoring – is now said to work more accurately in a number of scenarios, but particularly on wet track. The Drift Mode has been tweaked to work better with the new tires, and the overall handling has reportedly become sharper with more immediate feedback.
Whereas the standard Nevera comes equipped with a 120-kWh battery pack, the R version makes do with a smaller, but lighter 108-kWh pack supporting higher discharge currents. Rimac neglects to mention range, but points out that the extra current bumps up the powertrain output to 2,107 PS (1,989 hp / 1484 kW). That’s a solid improvement over the standard car’s already impressive 1,914 PS (1,888 hp / 1,408 kW).
The actual dynamic figures are just as impressive as these specs. The company says the car reaches 300 km/h (186 mph) in 8.66 seconds (down from 9.22 seconds) and completes the test portion of the Nardo Ring 3.8 seconds faster than the normal Nevera. It also runs the quarter-mile in 8.23 seconds (-0.02 seconds), but still needs 1.81 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph). The top speed stays capped at 412 km/h (256 mph).
