SC-01 affordable sports car reaches production in China

Small Sports Car (SSC) received substantial financial support from Xiaomi to launch production of its cheap all-electric SC-01 sports car in China. The first example has just rolled off the assembly line, CarNewsChina reports adding that the starting price will likely stay under 300,000 Yuan as promised ($42,320).

The two-seater is 4,105 mm (160.4 in) long, 1,830 mm (71.5 in) wide and 1,160 mm (45.3 in) tall. It weighs surprisingly little at 1,370 kg (3,020 lbs) and has a low center of gravity, which should translate into easier handling on the track. The frunk cover is front-hinged and flips open completely. The body is made of lightweight compound materials and attached to a stainless-steel space-frame.

SSC hasn’t disclosed the motor count, but said their combined output to all four wheels amounts to 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW) and 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. Since the driver can choose to disable torque on a per-axle basis, it sounds like two motors are used. The battery is mounted under the floor between the axles and delivers up to 520 km (323 miles).

Since the original premiere in September 2022, SSC has never shown the interior of the SC-01. The company promised us an ‘analog’ cabin dominated by physical controls, but we have yet to see it.
