There are only 30 Pagani Huayra R racecars in existence, and Lanzante just converted one of those into a street-legal supercar. The automaker was not impressed and banned the car from the Pagani motorsports program.
The Huayra R debuted four years ago and was about as extreme as racers got in 2021. It came equipped with a 6.0-liter naturally aspirated V12 producing 850 PS (838 hp / 625 kW) and a six-speed sequential transmission. The R body was reinforced to be 1.5 times as rigid as that of the original Huayra, and the body kit was revised to generate up to a metric ton (2,200 lbs) of downforce. Prices started from U.S. $2.6 million.
According to CarBuzz, Lanzante didn’t supply many details regarding the conversion. The most likely modifications included street-friendly chassis tweaks, new brakes, a recalibrated ECU and improved cooling. Naturally, the car had to be equipped with turn indicators and license plates, and the owner requested a climate control system installed as well.
You’d think it’s nice to see the occasional racer converted into a street car like this, but Pagani wasn’t too happy to learn about it. In a response posted earlier this week, the company said it generally didn’t mind aftermarket modifications but couldn’t guarantee that Lanzante hadn’t compromised the safety of the car in one way or another. Since there is no clear list of confirmed modifications, this Huayra R has been banned from participating in all racing events hosted by Pagani for safety reasons.
