Volkswagen T-Roc convertible SUV announced

The third member of the VW T-Roc family – an SUV with a removable top – will arrive in the showrooms later this year, the manufacturer claims. Apparently, the company is putting some finishing touches on the car and testing it in cold weather conditions.

The regular T-Roc and its performance trim called “R” both debuted at the Geneva Motor Show.

According to Volkswagen, the convertible will bring about an “emotional variation” in its range. This could mean new, vivid color schemes for the car’s body and interior, but no specifics are being provided thus far, except that the interior will be mostly regular T-Roc fare.

The open-top car will also be a fair bit heavier than its fixed-roof counterpart. As usual, this is explained by the need to compensate for the lack of structural rigidity – which is typical for convertibles – by reinforcing the entire chassis.

The T-Roc Cabrio will most likely ship with a choice of three gasoline engines (1.0L, 1.5L, and 2.0L @ 187 hp / 139 kW) and two diesel ones (1.6L and 2.0L).
