Toyota Land Cruiser 300 goes hybrid in UAE, Australia to follow

Toyota has unveiled the new Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid in the United Arab Emirates, where preorders are already running. Customers in Australia will have to wait until the next model year.

The part-electric Land Cruiser is also the most powerful one around. It combines a modified 3.5-liter V6 with a single electric motor and 10-speed automatic transmission. A similar powertrain in the Lexus LX 700h outputs 464 PS (458 hp / 341 kW) and 790 Nm (583 lb-ft) of torque. The Land Cruiser is listed with 457 PS (451 hp / 336 kW), but the same torque. Fuel economy averages out at 10.9 liters per 100 kilometers, or 21.5 miles per U.S. gallon.

On the outside, you can recognize the hybrid off-roader thanks to a distinct front bumper. Soon enough, a buffed-up GR Sport spec will be released for those who would like to stand out more.

Like the Lexus mentioned above, the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid features well-protected electric internals, and the company says it isn’t any less capable on the off-road than its ICE cousin. Should the e-motor fail or run out of juice, the SUV will remain fully drivable on gas alone.

In the Emirates, prices start from 389,900 Dirham. The non-electrified Land Cruiser packing a 3.5-liter V6 is much more affordable there at 329,900 Dirham before options.
