$24k gets you a Toyota Land Cruiser lookalike in Japan

Hakobanya (occasionally also spelled “Hakovanya”), a tuning shop based in Fukuoka, Japan, has launched a host of styling options for the local Toyota ProBox wagon. It lets you turn the cheap and unassuming family hauler into the iconic Land Cruiser 70… of sorts.

The package is known as the 70Yo.70 Destroyer (or just the 70 BOX). It includes an all-new front end reminiscent of that of the latest LC 70 facelift, round LED headlamps, a radiator grille with a honeycomb pattern, and a plastic-trimmed front bumper. The list goes on to mention a bulged hood, flared fenders and other minor visual tweaks that help the ProBox look more like an SUV.

To maximize the semblance, there’s even a fake AdBlue port lid decal on the list, as well as lifting suspension springs, an expedition rack and new alloy wheels complete with off-road tires.

Customers can choose from three versions of the package: Black, Vintage Blue and Beige. Based on the photos and the videos posted thus far, the Beige kit looks the most rugged of the three, while Vintage Blue looks appropriately retro. All three come with an option for an interior overhaul involving eco-leather, aluminum and wood grain.

It looks like the ProBox continues to rely on its stock 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 109 PS (108 hp / 80 kW) for propulsion. Despite such modest numbers, it can be optioned with an AWD system if FWD isn’t good enough for you. Prices in Japan begin from the equivalent of U.S. $12,000–14,000 for the stock ProBox. Installing a Hakobanya kit on your wagon will be at least $9,400 extra. To save the hassle, the tuner lists ready-made replicas starting from $24,200.
