Toyota confirms retiring Venza soon

The Japanese automaker has officially announced the discontinuation of its less-than-successful Venza SUV in the coming several months. It will be replaced with the new Crown Signia SUV coming to the U.S. market in the summer of 2024.

The Venza is a mid-size crossover SUV that was originally released in 2008 and went out of production in 2015. Toyota decided to bring it back in 2020, presenting a new generation based on the same chassis and tech as its Harrier model. However, it still fell flat in terms of sales.

In 2021, the new Venza sales peaked at 61,718 units sold in total across China, Canada and the United States. This number plummeted by 28,035 units in the following year. The available data for the ten months of 2023 suggests that the downward trend is continuing.

As such, Toyota’s decision makes good business sense, especially considering that the new Crown Signia is conceptually close to its predecessor. Both have two seat rows, have hybrid powertrains driving all four wheels, and make use of the company’s recent TNGA-K architecture. Rated at 246 PS (243 hp / 181 kW), the Signia is also 24 horsepower (18 kilowatts) more powerful than the Venza.
