Toyota rolls out the Yaris Cross for Asia

Toyota has brought a crossover SUV named Yaris Cross to the market of Indonesia. The new model has nothing in common with its European namesake aside from the name. It is a compact CUV based on DNGA by Daihatsu, a trimmed-down version of the TNGA platform.

The car is 4,310 mm long, 1,770 mm wide and 1,615 mm tall with 2,620 mm of wheelbase. It is styled in line with Toyota’s other recent releases, incorporating some features of the larger RAV4 and Highlander. A contrast-rich exterior, boxy fender flares and an impressively sized bumper make it look like an off-roader, and a premium GR Sport version takes things further with slightly more developed bumpers.

The interior has only been revealed for one of the top trim levels with two displays 7 and 10.1 inches large, a panoramic sunroof, premium trim materials all around and contrast stitching. The company claims the car is almost as spacious as its upmarket alternatives and offers class-leading trunk size.

The details, including the lower trim versions and prices, will be revealed later. For the drivetrains, the Yaris Cross for Indonesia offers two main options. One is a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with 106 PS (105 hp / 78 kW) and 138 Nm (102 lb-ft) of torque. You can get it with a five-speed manual transmission or a CVT. The other one is a hybrid composed of a petrol engine rated at 91 PS (90 hp / 67 kW) and an electric motor adding another 80 PS (79 hp / 59 kW). All-wheel drive is not available.
