The Volkswagen Atlas Peak Edition exhibited at the NYIAS-2023 show right now is supposed to be targeting the overlanding crowd, but its drivetrain and tech stay stock.
The changes are purely cosmetic with minor exceptions. For one, the Peak Edition runs on grippier Continental tires wrapped around 18-inch black wheels. The lower aprons and side sill trims have been optimized for off-road driving angles, and all exterior chrome made way for gloss-black trim pieces interspersed with rare matte-silver trim accents. For the inspiration, the company looked back at the Basecamp Concept from four years ago.
The khaki-tinted body finish will be exclusively available in this particular version. As for the interior, it comes trimmed with black and grey artificial leather stitched together with orange thread. The official photos show the car with an orange ambient light matching the Peak Edition badges, but the infotainment system actually lets you choose from 30 light color options.
In terms of tech and trim options the Peak Edition SUV is identical to the standard Atlas model refreshed a few months ago. It has a 10.3-inch and a 12-inch display on the dash, supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connections and relies on a 2.0-liter turbo engine to drive the wheels with 269 PS (265 hp / 198 kW). The pre-facelift version had the option for a 3.6-liter naturally aspirated VR6, but that engine was discontinued.
