Volkswagen T-Roc R spied testing in snow

Volkswagen facelifted the main T-Roc crossover a few months ago (see video) and is now getting an R version ready to rumble, as these spy photos posted on Carscoops demonstrate. Rumors claim it will debut in spring with 333 PS (328 hp / 245 kW) going to the four wheels.

On the outside, the test vehicle doesn’t look any different from a normal T-Roc until you spot blue performance brake calipers and four exhaust tips looking like they belong to an Akrapovic exhaust system. Volkswagen may or may not add more aero kit parts later, but we won’t be surprised if the company puts an emphasis on actual drivetrain parameters instead.

What we already know is that the T-Roc R will borrow its engine from the Golf R. This implies a 2.0-liter four-cylinder mill boosted to 333 metric horsepower as mentioned above. Since the T-Roc is a larger beast, though, it may wind up with an extra electric motor to compensate for the bulk. Using a dual-clutch transmission, it will likely reach 100 km/h (62 mph) from standstill in five seconds or less. Last but not least, VW may ship it with a dedicated Drift Mode for enthusiasts.
