Volvo XC40 spawns another hybrid version

The Swedish automaker has revised the drivetrain selection of its XC40 SUV in Europe, complementing the one-year-old “Recharge Plug-in Hybrid T5” spec with a new one called T4.

The new version is largely identical to the T5, and at €47,670, it is only €1,070 cheaper. The main difference is in the power rating of the 1.5-liter gasoline turbo engine, which produces only 129 hp (96 kW) and 245 Nm (181 lb-ft) of torque. The T5 spec is considerably more powerful with 180 hp (134 kW) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft).

Both cars rely on seven-speed dual-clutch transmission to drive the front axle, both feature the same 82hp (60kW) electric motor, and the traction battery stores up to 10.7 kilowatt-hours of power in both cases.

The total power output of the new Volvo XC40 T4 thus amounts to 211 hp (157 kW) and 405 Nm (300 lb-ft). The crossover SUV needs 8.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) and retains its 51 km (31.7 miles) of all-electric range.
