Xpeng P5 EV pricing & trims announced

Chinese carmaker Xpeng has revealed the local prices and trim levels of its P5 sedan, which is marketed as the world’s first all-electric production sedan with LIDAR tech on board. The car comes in cheaper than the Tesla Model 3 and has more range.

Customers in China will get as many as six versions to choose from. The powertrain stays the same in all cases with 210 PS (207 hp / 154 kW) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque. Batteries vary from 55.9 to 71.4 kilowatt-hours. The base trim comes without any self-driving equipment on board, while the top one features an XPilot package with a couple of LIDAR sensors for the car to detect obstacles within a 150m (492ft.) radius and better see the environment overall.

The standard spec offers 460 km (286 miles) of NEDC-rated driving range. The middle spec has 550 km (342 miles), and the topmost one 600 km (404 miles). Prices range from 157,900 to 223,900 Yuan. To put things into perspective, the standard Tesla Model 3 starts from 251,000 in China and offers 468 km (291 miles) of driving on a single charge.

The Xpeng P5 will hit showrooms in China on October 15, 2021. The company expects to move up to 10,000 units per month.
