A unique Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider adorned with nearly a third of a million artificially grown crystals has made an appearance at the Monterey Car Week in California.
The owner of the vehicle, who goes by @supercar_ron, ordered the transformation from his teammate Tace Anderson (although other reports claim it was a surprise). A car detailing company called Young Film & Finish was responsible for the priming process, and The Crystal Ninja applied the crystals themselves. It took 12 people over 1,500 workhours to glue the crystals on top of a vinyl wrap.
The upside of this approach to styling is that you can always revert it to stock if desired, @supercar_ron argues. Why would you do that? Well, now that the car is whole 16 kilos (35 pounds) heavier with all the stones adorning its body, it’s probably slower around the corner than the stock version. At least, until the crystals start coming loose, but then you have another problem.
Like its coupe counterpart, the Valkyrie Spider is a hybrid supercar that combines a 6.5-liter, naturally aspirated Cosworth V12 with a single electric motor. The engine can rev up to 11,100 RPM and output up to 1,000 PS (986 hp / 735 kW). The motor supplies 162 PS (160 hp / 120 kW) of its own. The total thus amounts to 1,162 PS (1,146 hp / 855 kW).
Only 85 Spider units like this exist worldwide. The coupe is slightly less exclusive with a 150-unit production run, and there are also 40 examples of the track-only Valkyrie AMR Pro.
