Meet Chery Tiggo 9X, a facelifted and renamed Tiggo 8L

Chery has rolled out the refreshed Tiggo 9 lineup in China. The main model nine barely changed – both in terms of the looks and the equipment – and neither did the plug-in-hybrid Tiggo 9 C-DM variant. But there’s one new SUV in the family now – the 9X, Autohome.cn reports.

A closer look reveals that it’s a Tiggo 8L that Chery chose to rebrand as a model nine for some reason. It looks almost identical to the 8L and even rides on the same multi-spoke wheels, but has an all-new front fascia. Sized 4,817 x 1,930 x 1,729 mm with a wheelbase of 2,770 mm, it stays within 50 mm (2 inches) of the model 8L’s dimensions.

A 2.0-liter turbo four-pot uses an eight-speed automatic transmission to deliver 254 PS (251 hp / 187 kW) and 390 Nm (288 lb-ft) of torque to either the front wheels or all four. This is a detour from the mainline Tiggo 9 for China, which is also obtainable with a seven-speed DCT and benefits from extra 7 hp and 10 Nm.

Inside, the Tiggo 9X looks the same as the 8L it is based upon, There is a 10.25-inch dash display and a 15.6-inch head unit with Apple CarPlay and an LLM-powered voice assistant. Your choice of trim level determines the hardware on which the infotainment system runs, though, so paying extra gets you a faster, more responsive infotainment UI.

Buyers can choose between five- and seven-seat variants of the 9X. Seat heating and ventilation are included as standard, while 10-point massage is a paid option. There’s also an electronic safety/assist package on the list called Falcon 500.

Prices vary from 147,900 to 169,900 depending on the spec.
