Dodge still sells brand-new Vipers in the USA, 7 years after production end

Dodge dealerships in the United States have sold a handful of factory-new Viper supercars last year that went out of production in 2017. According to Motor1, the Stellantis Group brands have sold 11 so-called ‘zombie cars’ in 2023, the oldest of them made eight years ago. Other automakers have sold six.

Aside from two Dodge Vipers, the showrooms got rid of a pair of Chrysler Town&Country vans discontinued in 2016, a trio of Dodge Darts just as old, and four Chrysler 200 models that left production at the same time as the Viper.

Buyers managed to obtain a never-used 2020 Alfa Romeo 4C, a 2017 Jeep Patriot, five Acura NSX coupes, six 2022 Hyundai Velosters, and seven old-gen Toyota Land Cruisers. Toyota has responded to this report saying its dealerships in the U.S. still had a few old Land Cruisers in stock.

It is unclear how these vehicles had managed to stay in the warehouses. A plausible theory in the case of the Dodge Viper is that the showrooms wanted to hold on to their last received examples, keeping them on display and attracting customers.
