Saleen-tuned, movie-wrecked Ford Mustang GT goes on sale

Mecum will soon put this 2002 Ford Mustang GT up for sale with estimates between U.S. $60,000 and $90,000. The car was upgraded by Saleen Automotive and starred in the Fast and Furious saga, albeit only briefly and with a disastrous outcome.
The coupe seen here appeared on the screen in 2 Fast 2 Furious for a few minutes. It enters a race and gets crushed by a truck soon afterwards, never making it to the finish line.

The second instalment in the Fast & Furious franchise featured roughly 120 vehicles, including five similar-looking Mustangs. The seller still claims that it was this specific car that was run over by the truck in the move. Allegedly, Mason’s Hotrods and Hobbies in South Carolina bought it out after the filming was done and conducted a full restoration.

The ‘Stang is finished in bright red and has less than 1,000 km (620 miles) on the odometer. Its 4.6-liter V8 delivers an unspecified amount of power to the rear axle through an automatic transmission. During its stay at Saleen, it received assorted brake and suspension upgrades along with new seats, an aftermarket rear bumper and centered tailpipes.
