A rare Porsche 550A Spyder racecar sold for USD 5,000,000+

Bonhams Motoring has recently held an auction for a number of classic cars, the true highlight of which was an extremely rare Porsche 550A Spyder of the 1958 series. The car went to an anonymous buyer and earned its previous owner 5,170,000 U.S. dollars.

This particular Porsche 550A Spyder has quite a story to tell. It used to be owned by the Porsche Racing Team and won the 1,000 Kilometers Nürburgring with a gold medal. It also scored silver at the 24 Hours Le Mans.

The vehicle is equipped with a 1.5-liter, dual-carburetor V4 capable of 137 hp and 145 Nm torque. It also features independent springing and drum brakes.

A total of 40 cars like this were produced.
