Tuner revives the Porsche 917 with a non-turbo flat-12

D Zug, a car company from Latvia, has spent the past six years designing a modern version of the legendary Porsche 917. The so-called DZ12 is now ready to ship with a full-carbon body and a starting price equivalent to U.S. $2.1 million.

With its numerous triumphs in the most challenging races of the 1970s, the Porsche 917 is widely considered one of the marque’s most successful race cars in history. Its sheer rarity compounded by an impressive list of accomplishments makes it a particularly desirable collection piece. But while D Zug is clearly targeting collectors with its project, its car is an all-new development.

Built on a stainless-steel tube-frame with steel subframes and all-carbon bodywork and aero, the DZ12 rides on highly adjustable suspension and features carbon-ceramic brakes. Its 6.0-liter flat-plane 12-cylinder engine was designed from the ground up specifically for this project, and uses aluminum alongside titanium for maximum performance. We still don’t know the output, but with an ability to rev up to 9,000 RPM, this big block is guaranteed to be tons of fun on the track.

The transmission is six-speed manual, and the exhaust system is made from Inconel “for the most analogue emotions”, according to the tuner.

No more than 100 such vehicles will be made.
