The market of used Porsche 911 models is vast, but somewhat skewed with the USA and Germany supplying the most restomods. Those looking for something more exciting and exotic may consider Lab Eleven, an Italian tuning company that abides by a strict code when restoring Porsches.
Working with a 993-generation car, the tuner first does a background check to make sure that the record is completely transparent and accident-free. Should there be issues with the documents, the car gets immediately discarded. The same goes for serial numbers – they all get checked to ensure that all parts are genuine and belong to the same vehicle.
New bodywork then gets fabricated from aluminum, magnesium alloy or carbon fiber. Customers can choose from more than a hundred of available Porsche colors or specify their own hue from over 200 options. The interior trim opportunities are just as vast.
For the engine, you are given flat-six options ranging from 3.6 to 4.0 liters of displacement. The brakes, the drivetrain and suspension parts and the like get selected based on the driver’s priorities. There are three main specifications to choose from: SportTouren (the most comfortable), Sportwagen (agile and fast) and Project Rennen (track weapon).
Creating one such restomod takes around 4,000 workhours. For a more detailed overview, check out this 21-minute-long episode of Jay Leno’s Garage.
