Drag Race: Old Toyota Camry V6 wipes the floor with the new one

The YouTube team of Throttle House arranged a series of quarter-mile races to answer the nagging questions many Toyota Camry fans had for a while now. They took a current-generation hybrid model and compared it against a similarly specced modern car, as well as against its own predecessor.

The Camry in question is an AWD model with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood. It produces 232 PS (229 hp / 171 kW) in hybrid mode and weighs 1,655 kilos (3,650 pounds).

The first competitor to hit the track was the latest Honda Accord. It is also a hybrid, but its output isn’t as good at 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW). On the upside, it tips the scales at 1,606 kg (3,540 lbs).

The new Camry won its standing and rolling races against the Accord, but in the latter case, the Accord came really close to it.

Things changed when a TRD-tuned Camry saloon arrived at the start line. It had only two driven wheels, but got 301 PS (297 hp / 221 kW) from its 3.5-liter V6 and was lighter than the hybrid at 1,620 kg (3,571 lbs).

In the standing race that followed, the V6-packing old Camry blasted off the line and had only proceeded to increase the gap. The rolling race attempt culminated pretty much in the same way. To sweeten the pill somewhat, the hosts pointed out that the new Camry was still fast enough for daily driving and came with much better trim options, too.
