According to Automotive News not citing any official sources, Volkswagen will be updating the Atlas seven-seater and its Cross Sport five-seat counterpart in 2026. It is unclear from the report whether the SUV will be revealed or go on sale that year.
The current Atlas generation (in the gallery and video below) received a facelift in February 2023. Considering this, it would make sense for the 2026MY update to be a generational change and not just another mid-life refresh.
The recent update brought a new 2.0-liter turbo to the Atlas lineup with 269 PS (265 hp / 198 kW) and 273 Nm (201 lb-ft) of torque. Buyers can choose between FWD and AWD, but the transmission will be eight-speed automatic in either case.
It is still unknown whether the big Atlas or its two-row Atlas Cross sibling will be electrified in their next design iteration, and if yes, then how.
