This highly unusual disguised electric car reminiscent of the iconic Volvo P1800 coupe was spotted not far from Goteborg, Sweden, where the automaker’s headquarters are located.
The P1800 model celebrates its 60th anniversary next year: coupes and three-door wagons with this badge were produced in 1961 – 1973. Perhaps Volvo wants to commemorate this past success?
Despite the obvious design similarities, the mysterious test vehicle is still markedly different from its source of inspiration in several areas. For one, it sports much wider wheels and arches, whereas the P1800 had narrow tires wrapped around simple pressed wheels. The bumpers and the front spoiler are likewise new, and the missing exhaust tips hint at the fact that the car may be all-electric. If the latter is true, then chances are high that it makes use of Polestar electric powertrain tech.
Volvo has made no official comment on the discovery so far.
