Video: This is what a $500,000 Volvo P1800 Cyan looks and handles like

The Cyan Racing team has caused many ripples when it premiered its Volvo P1800 vintage-ride-turned-restomod earlier this year, and now Mr. JWW has published a detailed video review of the project.

The rear-wheel-drive coupe received a new chassis made of high-tensile stainless steel, a wider wheel span, new suspension and racing-grade brakes. The cabin was moved slightly to the back and the body paneling altered carefully to match.

The old mill flew out and a 2.0-liter turbo four-banger similar to the Volvo S60 TC1 racecar engine took its place under the hood. The wheels are now hit with up to 420 PS (414 hp / 309 kW) and 455 Nm (336 lb-ft), delivered through a five-speed manual transmission.

Other than that, power steering is perhaps the only modern driver-friendly feature of the restomod, as it notably lacks any kind of ABS or stability control. This was done intentionally to preserve the authentic experience of driving a late 1960s-era sports car.

Ordering a new Volvo P1800 Cyan starts from U.S. $500,000, and the sky’s the limit if you want more bells and whistles on it than it already has.
