Legendary Alfa Romeo racecar goes on sale for €0.7M

One of the famous Alfa Romeo 155 V6 TI DTM racecars built in the early 1990s for participation in touring car championships in Europe will cross the auction block in late July. The seller reckons to be able to get €650,000–700,000 out of the deal.

The model was originally developed for the season of 1993 and complied with the new regulations introduced that year (see video). The general consensus was that the Alfa Romeo team had pretty much swiped all the awards that season, with no other team coming close. The 155 V6 TI DTM proceeded to race for four more seasons, meeting increasing competition from Mercedes-Benz and Opel, and managed to bring home 38 top awards.

This example was made in 1994. The seller doesn’t say much about its background. Judging by the starting number 11, the livery and the year of manufacture, the car belonged to Schübel Engineering and was driven by Christian Danner. Silver at the Nürburgring was his biggest achievement in 1994.

The listing doesn’t mention it, but Schübel Engineering equipped its racecar with a 2.5-liter, dry-sump V6 that could rev up to 11,500 RPM and sent 440 PS (434 hp / 324 kW) to the wheels. It was also retrofitted with improved aerodynamic components, active suspension and a purpose-designed, track-ready ABS. It could sprint from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around three seconds.
