Chery launches Fulwin A9L in China

Chery has begun accepting preorders for the A9L, a full-size hybrid saloon from its Fulwin lineup. It runs on the same platform as the Exlantix ES and can have either two or three motors. Prices range from 159,900 to 229,900 Yuan, and offline sales start on July 8.

The A9L is sized 5,018 x 1,965 x 1,500 mm large with three meters of wheelbase. It features a rather unique body design not really similar to that of any other Fulwin car. Chery points out that it has a low drag ratio of just 0.23 – that could explain the smooth, streamlined exterior.

For the powertrain, the car uses two variants of a hybrid setup known as the Kungpeng C-DM. Both are based on a 1.5-liter engine rated at 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) and 220 Nm (162 lb-ft) of torque. The budget spec adds a single electric motor to it, bumping up the combined output to 374 PS (369 hp / 275 kW) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) of torque.

All-wheel-drive is only available in the top spec, which mates the engine mentioned above with two e-motors for 639 PS (630 hp / 470 kW) and 854 Nm (630 lb-ft). This version sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.9 seconds, while the other one needs 7.9 seconds.

There is just one battery pack on the list, rated at 33.68 kilowatt-hours. Chery claims it is enough for up to 260 km (161 miles) of all-electric driving or up to 2,000 km (1,242 miles) in hybrid mode.

Options include adaptive shocks, 20-inch wheels and an infotainment system running on a Snapdragon 8255 chipset with a 15.6-inch screen and 23 audio speakers. Massaged/ventilated seats, HVAC and an active rear spoiler are also on the list.
Later on, a four-seat variant of the Fulwin A9L will be released with separate back row seats, Chery says.
