Zero Labs unveils a dedicated EV platform for restomods

Last spring, Zero Labs Automotive turned the classical Ford Bronco into an all-electric car and promised us to do the same with other rare and old models. Today, it unveiled the Classic Electric Platform, which should help streamline the conversion process.

The new EV architecture fits the original Bronco and a handful of other vehicles, including the U.S.-made International Harvester Scout, the 1960s-era Toyota Land Cruiser, the Gen.2 and 3 of Land Rover SUVs, and a few others. Ford F-100 and F-150 are on the “coming soon” list.

The platform lends itself well to any wheelbase configuration and allows flexible placement of traction batteries throughout the vehicle. You can add more batteries later on. Air-ride suspension and Brembo brakes are optional, and the conversion takes a month to complete.

Customers can choose between two powertrains. One has a single rear-axle mounted motor rated at 300 PS (295 hp / 220 kW) and 330 Nm (243 lb-ft) of torque. The other one offers dual motors and 600 PS (592 hp / 440 kW). The standard 85-kWh battery translates into 321 km of driving range (200 miles), but you could opt for a slightly larger one rated at 100 kWh if you want 378 km (236 miles).

The Bronco EV from last year had a single motor good for 374 PS (369 hp / 275 kW) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque, part-time AWD, manual shifting, and a somewhat smaller 70-kWh battery.

Pre-order books are already open, and the first shipments should begin next fall. Prices are available upon request.
