Ford and Jiangling Motors have united efforts to bring the iconic Bronco nameplate to China, but aside from superficial design similarities, the actual SUV has nothing to do with it.
In the United States, Ford has a full-size off-roader called the Bronco and a compact-sized crossover known as the Bronco Sport. The Chinese car seen here is a unibody crossover with Bronco Sport looks, but a size bigger than the full-blown Bronco. It will go on sale in BEV and tri-motor REEV flavors promising up to 1,200 km (745 miles) of range per gas tank. Nothing indicates that it could ever go on sale outside of China.
These photos are all we have right now to judge the appearance. A spec sheet from the country’s certification database says the crossover is 5,025 mm long, 1,960 mm wide and 1,815 mm tall with a 2,950-mm wheelbase.
Customers in China will be choosing from two AWD powertrains. The BEV version will use a 177-PS (175-hp / 130-kW) motor at the front axle and a 275-PS (271-hp / 202-kW) at the back along with a 105.4-kWh battery pack from BYD. This version will have 650 km (404 miles) of range, the manufacturer estimates.
The hybrid will combine the same front motor as above with a slightly less powerful 245-PS (242-hp / 180-kW) rear motor. It will also use a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine outputting 150 PS (148 hp / 110 kW) to generate electricity. A 43.7-kWh battery pack will give it up to 220 km (136 miles) of all-electric range, extendable to 1,200 km (745 miles) and possibly more with a full tank.
Judging by the images, the Chinese Ford Bronco will come equipped with a LiDAR, something that neither of its two North American namesakes have on the options list. The full reveal is still a few months away, with rumors claiming that the sales may start in Q4 2025.
