Tuner relaunches Ford GT production with up to 1,521 PS under the hood

The legendary Ford GT (see video) has only been in production for two years and is still a highly sought-after vehicle with barely over 4,000 units made in total. As it now turns out, Michigan-based company GT1 secured the last 30 production chasses straight from the factory and now intends to turn them into a gorgeous continuation series.

Aside from the ready platforms, the Ford specialist managed to obtain the original body production molds designed by Matech Concepts, so the bodywork will be as true to the original as it can be while taking advantage of an all-carbon composition.

The company also uses a host of racing-grade components for the suspension, brakes and steering, and we would imagine that the cars can be made compatible with certain racing regulations, although you will need to contact GT1 to find out for sure.

Despite all of the above, the project is much a restomod as it is a continuation. Ford did not have any GT engines left to spare, so GT1 teamed up with Roush to develop a custom twin-turbo V8 for the project. The mill revs up to 9,000 RPM and can be configured to produce from the original’s 550 PS (542 hp / 404 kW) to 1,521 PS (1,500 hp / 1,119 kW). A Sadev sequential transmission will drive the wheels, ensuring a sprint from zero to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h) in roughly three seconds and a top speed exceeding 200 mph (322 km/h).

The first vehicle will attend the U.S. Speed Festival next September. Prices start from $1,200,000 before any options.
